Shalimar Rydzik, MSW, APSW

Hi, I’m Shal, an APSW Therapist with over 7 years of experience in the mental health field. My background includes adult and youth, individual and group therapy, clubhouse rehabilitation, partial hospitalization, wraparound and trauma-focused work. For the past 3 years, I’ve focused on working with youth and families within the Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) program. Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years in fast-paced, people-centered environments, building strong skills in communication, problem-solving, and understanding real- life stress. Combined with my personal experience as a parent and living with ADHD, I bring both professional training and real-world perspective into my work.

I work with children, teens, and families, with a focus on (but not limited to) ADHD, anxiety, depression and trauma. I also use DBT skills in a practical, relatable way that clients can apply in everyday life. My approach is person-centered, warm, and real. I use creative, hands-on, and nature-based approaches like art, movement, games, and outdoor sessions to help clients feel comfortable, build connection, and stay engaged. I’m known for looking beyond behaviors to understand the “why” underneath and identifying the barriers that need to be addressed first. I focus on building a strong foundation so that progress is meaningful and lasting.

I value working with families while also advocating for each client’s voice and individual experience. Clients and families often describe me as genuine, easy to connect with, and someone who truly cares. Outside of therapy, I’m a mom to teenagers, have three tiny dogs, and am working toward building a small hobby farm. I enjoy mixed media art, thrifting, a little trashy reality TV when there is time and all of the animals! All things that reflect the creative and down-to-earth energy I bring into my work.
